Project background
In 2018, the Lenovo Tablet team joined forces with the Amazon Alexa voice service to co-create a novel bundle consisting of a tablet and a smart dock. This Android tablet serves as a standard tablet when used independently and transforms into a static home hub device reminiscent of an Echo Show when connected to the dock,
“The Lenovo Smart Tab M10 with Alexa Built-in is a robust Android-based tablet that also serves as a smart home hub.
This elegant 10.1" HD tablet is designed for family sharing, offering enjoyable multimedia experiences whether it's docked or in standalone mode. When connected to the Smart Dock with Alexa Built-in, it not only charges but also enables you to ask Alexa questions, control your smart home, and more."
challenges
Stakeholder Management
Managing a diverse group of stakeholders—including internal teams, external partners, technical experts, business leaders, and marketing—was a top priority. Ensuring alignment across all parties and keeping everyone on the same page throughout the project was critical to its success.
Technical Challenges
The coordination between the core Alexa service, domain teams responsible for specific skills, integration teams, front-end developers, hardware engineers, and partner teams posed significant technical challenges. Iterating on technical requirements and ensuring seamless collaboration across these teams was essential to meet development timelines.
Balancing UX, Business, and Technical needs
With numerous business and technical requirements shifting priorities, balancing delivering a great user experience and meeting business objectives without compromising technical feasibility was challenging. This balancing act was key to the project’s overall success.
